DOE Fleet Mechanic – FT

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Light and Heavy construction vehicles and equipment. The Fleet Mechanic reports directly to the AES Pt Thomson Foreman.


Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures

Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations

Inspect light and heavy vehicles and equipment to diagnose malfunctions

Repair heavy construction vehicles and equipment such as but not limited to large hydraulic cranes, dump trucks, front-end loaders, motor graders, tractor-trailers, water trucks, scrapers, and other heavy equipment

Repair light duty construction vehicles to include Ford F250’s, F350’s and Passenger Van

Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems within the Ford system

Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering and transmissions

Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools and instruments

Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes in accordance with maintenance schedules

Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency

Clean and maintain equipment, tools, and the general work area

Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED

10 or more years repairing heavy equipment preferred – Cat, Peterbilt, Cummins and Kubota engines

5 or more years repairing Ford light duty pickups and vans experience preferred.

Candidate must have troubleshooting and repair experience with power train, hydraulic, air and electrical systems.

The successful candidate must possess the knowledge and craft skills to maintain, service, troubleshoot and repair equipment to include but not limited to:

Peterbilt Tractors
Peterbilt Dump Truck Grove Cranes (50 Ton to 150 Ton)
Cat (966K and 972K wheel loaders, 272D1 Skid Steer Loader, 1055C Telehandler, 336E excavators 14M grader and vibratory compactors)
Genie Man lifts
Allmand light plants
Thawzall Ground Heater
Westmark crude / diesel tankers
Westmark 125 bbl top load water truck
70 bbl Vac truck, non mobile

Candidate needs to have experience in using Cat, Cummins, Peterbilt and Ford computer based troubleshooting programs.

Experience in the oil and gas industry and in the arctic environment preferred.

Any Dealership experience or Vocational Training is highly desirable.


GED certificate, North Slope Training Cooperative certification and valid driver’s license are required.

Additional Details:

The availability of this position is contingent upon the Company’s continued operational needs once training is completed.

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:

1. Meet the AES Driver Licenses and Records Policy.

2. Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing.

3. Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.

4. Able to successfully complete a Fit For Duty test to meet job requirements

5. Meet background requirements for the project

Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (DOT/FMCSA)

Current DOT medical card and commercial driver’s license with hazardous material endorsement required. All applicants must meet the following AES Driver Licenses and Records policy.

Employees selected for this position are required to submit to DOT Drug and Alcohol testing. Additionally, AES will verify previous Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Records for the past three years, prior to working for the company, as well as the successful completion of DOT return-to-work requirements for violations.
